Bulldogs End in 2-2 Draw Against Santa Barbara

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's soccer program settled for a 2-2 draw against Santa Barbara City College in gusty conditions at home on Tuesday afternoon. | BOX SCORE

Both teams were scoreless through the opening half of play, but Bianca Castaneda put the Bulldogs (4-5-2) on the board in the 54th minute. Hope Smith added to the advantage in the 57th minute after beating a defender and capitalizing on a one-on-one situation against the SBCC keeper. The Vaqueros (5-5-1) rallied with a pair of late goals to force the tie. 

As a team, Hancock was outshot by a 15-9 margin with 11 SBCC attempts coming in the second half. The Vaqueros also held a hefty 7-1 advantage on corner kicks in the contest and converted one attempt for a goal. Castaneda led the offensive attack for the Bulldogs with three attempts, followed by two apiece from Smith and Brianna Gaona. Genesis Rodriguez collected seven saves in the box to cap off her first complete game of the season as the keeper. 

With the tie, the Bulldogs hold steady as the No. 2 team in the Western State Conference while boasting a 2-1-1 league record while Santa Barbara (1-2-1) remains tied for third. Ventura currently leads the conference with a spotless 4-0 record.   

Hancock will continue to the conference slate with a road trip to Moorpark on Friday, October 15th.
