Hancock Track and Field Opens Season Strong in the Battle of the Regions

This last Friday the Allan Hancock College men's and women's track and field teams competed in their season opener in the Battle of the Regions at Bakersfield College. The Bulldogs opened the season with strong performances across several track and field events.

For the women, Pioneer Valley freshman Yasmin Mendez finished second in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 16:06. Kameah Tell, a freshman out of Righetti High placed third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.99. Cabrillo graduate Stephanie Rodriguez finished 9th in the 100 meter with a time of 13.57.

On the men's side, Lompoc freshman Elijah Evans finished fourth in the trip jump with a distance of 41'07''. Football defensive lineman and Hawaii native Hiram Anakalea finished fourth in shot put with a distance of 41'10.75''.

The Bulldogs start the season off on the right note and will look to continue their success again this Friday, February 14th when they compete at the Western State Conference Relays at West LA College at 11:00 AM.
