Hancock Erupts for Most Runs Since 2010, Routs West Hills 19-2

Patience at the plate paid off in a big way for the Bulldogs. The Allan Hancock College baseball team drew a season-best 16 walks and collected 13 in a 19-2 win over West Hills Coalinga Tuesday afternoon in Santa Maria. The Bulldogs' 19 run-outburst was their largest offensive showing since scoring 19 runs in May 2010. The Bulldogs improved to 4-2 at home and 5-9 overall. West Hills fell to 7-7.

Twelve Bulldogs had at least one hit. Wyatt Standley had two hits in two at-bats. Freshman catcher Nash Ackerman drew two walks with the bases loaded and hit a two-run double to finish with a career-high 4 RBI. Freshman third baseman Josh Harmonay had 3 RBI. Twelve Bulldogs scored at least one. Sophomore center fielder Kyle von Tillow and Brandon Davis each scored three times.

Hancock opened the scoring in the first when Harmonay walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a ground ball. He scored on a sacrifice fly from Quinntin Perez to give Hancock the lead for good 1-0. Brendan Gomez was hit by a pitch, and von Tillow and Wyatt Coll drew back-to-back walks. Gomez later scored on a wild pitch to give Hancock a 2-0 lead.

Hancock sent 14 men to the plate in a nine-run second inning. Perez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Ackerman. Gomez hit a RBI-single. von Tillow, Davis, freshman Dylan Maiden and Ackerman drew walks to force in runs in consecutive at-bats. Harmonay drove in two runs when the shortstop misplayed a ball to make it 10-0 Bulldogs. Daniel Curiel capped the nine-run frame with a RBI-single to push the lead to 11-0. Hancock drew six walks and had three hits in the inning.

Maiden was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Ackerman drew a bases-loaded walk to force in two more runs in the third. Harmonay followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to give Hancock a 14-0 lead. Ackerman delivered a two-run double in the fourth to push it to 16-0 Hancock.

After West Hills scored twice in the sixth, the Bulldogs added three more in the seventh on RBI-singles from Brian Dowell and Ryan Peinado. Maiden reached on another error to plate Chris Taitague to account for the other run. West Hills committed five errors in the game.

Sophomore Elijah Ortiz earned the win. He threw five-shutout innings. He scattered two hits, one walk, and struck out five. Phil Almanza allowed two runs and three hits in three innings of middle relief. Nate Alcantar pitched a scoreless ninth and struck out one to seal the win.

The Bulldogs will host Taft College Thursday at 2 p.m.
