Bulldogs Come from Behind to Beat Cosumnes River 73-66 in Overtime to Open Chabot Tournament

Marcellus Garrick scored 11 of his team-high 14 points in the second half to lead the Allan Hancock College men's basketball to its third straight come-from-behind win on Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs defeated Cosumnes River College 73-66 in overtime to open a three-day tournament hosted by Chabot College. The Bulldogs improved to 3-1 and advanced into Friday's winners' bracket semifinal at 5 p.m.

After trailing 28-26 at halftime, the Bulldogs fell behind by 10 points, 50-40, with about 8:15 to go in the second half. Sophomore guard Shane Carney hit two free throws, and freshman forward Shemarr Parker hit a bucket to close it to a six-point deficit. Garrick hit a three-pointer and Kevawn Lord hit back-to-back buckets to continue the rally. With the game tied 54-54, Dominic Jackson scored in the paint to give Hancock the lead 56-54 with 5:14 to play. It marked Hancock's first lead since the Bulldogs led 18-15 with 5:54 to play in the opening half. Hancock led 58-54 with about 75 seconds to go in regulation before Cosumnes River scored the next two buckets to force overtime.

In overtime, Hancock took control early as Jackson hit a bucket to give the Bulldogs the lead for good. The Bulldogs sank 11 of their 15 free throws in the extra five minutes to seal the victory.

Carney finished with 13 points for the Bulldogs. Nolan Willett poured in a career-best 11 points to give Hancock three scorers in double digits. Parker, a former Santa Maria High School star, finished with a season-best eight points. Erik Kinnebrew, a freshman forward, added nine points for Hancock. Jackson finished with eight points.

Overall, Hancock 24 of its 34 free throws in the victory.

Hancock will play at 5 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will face the winner of the first round matchup between Marin and Feather River, the No. 5 team in the Northern California Preseason Poll.
