Three Bulldogs Finish in Top 15, Hancock Places Fourth at WSC Championships

Aided by three top 15 individual finishes, the Allan Hancock College men's golf team claimed fourth place out eight teams in the Western State Conference Championships on Monday at Rancho Vista Golf Club in Palmdale.

Sophomore Alejandro Nicolini carded an even-par 72 in the first round and 73 in the second round for a total score of 145 and sixth place finish in the individual standings. Shawn Brackett carded two rounds of 74 for a 148 and tied for 11th place. Freshman Robert Zimkowski fired a 75 and 74 for an overall score of 149 which was good enough for a four-way tie for 15th place. All three qualified as individuals for next week's CCCAA Southern California Regional.

Sophomore Triston Ioppini carded rounds of 78 and 75 for a total score of 153. Justin Roxbrough had back-to-back rounds of 78 for a 156. The five Bulldogs combined for a total score of 751 (377 and 374), finishing two strokes behind third place Ventura, and two strokes ahead of fifth place Glendale.

College of the Canyons won its sixth straight Western State Conference title. The defending Southern California Regional champions shot identical 363s to finish with a total score of 726. The Cougars edged runner-up Santa Barbara City College by three strokes. Ventura finished third with a 749 to solidify the conference's third and final team slot in the CCCAA Southern California Regional.

The individual medalist honor went to Santa Barbara's Brett Patton who hired two rounds of 70 for a total score of 140.

Overall, Hancock finished sixth in the eight-team conference standings at 25-52. Canyons sat atop the standings at 74-3, followed by Santa Barbara at 64-13, Ventura (45-32), Glendale (42-35) and Citrus (29-48). Antelope Valley (20-57) and Bakersfield (9-68) finished in seventh and eighth place.

The Southern California Regionals will be on Monday, May 4, at Olivas Links in Ventura. The 36-hole event begins at 7 a.m.
