Chenault Fans 13 in 2-0 Win over Mt. San Jacinto

Katie Chenault struck out 13 and did not issue a walk in a dazzling performance to lead the Allan Hancock College softball team to a 2-0 win over Mt. San Jacinto on Sunday afternoon. After beating the host team, the Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 14 in the latest State Poll, completed a 4-1-1 run at the three-day tournament, and improved to 6-2-1 overall. Mt. San Jacinto dropped to 2-8-1 overall.

Chenault allowed two singles and struck out 13 of the 22 batters she faced, one over the minimum number of hitters in a seven inning game.

Hancock recorded four hits, but made them count. Kayla Stevens delivered a RBI-triple and Judith Salazar drove in the other run for the Bulldogs. Stevens, Teanna Silveira, Missy Regalado and Chenault each had a hit for the Bulldogs.

Chenault, who led the state last year with a program record 370 strikeouts, leads California pitchers with 89 strikeouts this season over 57 2/3 innings. She has thrown four shutouts in a row, a streak that includes 24 innings.

The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, Feb. 20, against Sacramento City College at Cuesta College. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. Sacramento is 3-1 to open the season and ranked 15th in the state poll, one slot behind the Bulldogs.
