No. 12 Bulldogs Club Four Home Runs, Rout Oxnard 20-1

Katie Chenault hit two home runs, Jessica Rothanzl slugged one and Judith Salazar cranked her second grand slam of the season as the Allan Hancock College softball team crushed Oxnard 20-1 in five innings on Thursday. Hancock won its 18th straight game to improve to 8-0 in conference and 20-2-1 overall.

The Bulldogs scored five runs in the bottom of the first by virtue of the long ball. A three-run home run to left by Rothanzl, her seventh of the season, gave Hancock a 3-0 lead. Two batters later, Chenault slugged a two-run shot over the left-center field wall to make it 5-0 Hancock.

The Bulldogs set 21 batters to the plate during a 15-run third inning. Chenault started the scoring with a two-run home run. Freshman catcher Teanna SIlveira hit a two-run single, Rothanzl delivered a RBI-single and Salazar hit a grand slam over the wall in left-center field to make it 14-0. Silveira and Missy Regalado added RBI-singles, while Megan Love and Chenault drew walks with the bases loaded to force in runs and Rothanzl was hit by a pitch with the bags full to force in another Bulldog.

Hancock finished with 16 hits, led by a 4 for 4 game from Regalado that included two doubles. Chenault, Love, Rothanzl and Silveira had two hits apiece. Rothanzl and Chenault had 5 RBI apiece. Michaela Valencia drew four walks, hit a single, stole two cases and scored three times.

Chenault struck out nine and allowed five hits and one run over five solid innings to earn the victory.
