Nevitt and Naugle Earn Two Top Seven Finishes Each at Battle of the Regions

Sophomores Taylor Nevitt and Rachel Naugle opened the 2017 track and field season for Allan Hancock College with two top seven finishes during the Battle of the Regions at Bakersfield College Friday. Athletes competed in challenging and wet conditions throughout the season-opening meet.

Naugle finished seventh in the 1500 meter run by crossing the line at 5:15, and sixth in the 800 in 2:36. Nevitt, who qualified for the state meet as a freshman, placed fourth in the shot put with a top toss of 33-1, and came in third in the discus throw with a top mark of 100-8.  

Naugle qualified for SoCal Regionals last season as a freshman, while Nevitt competed at the 2016 CCCAA State Championships.

Brent Dionisio opened his sophomore season with first place finishes in the men's high jump and long jump while four other male Bulldogs earned top six finishes.  

Dionisio, who qualified for Southern California Regionals as a freshman in 2015, won the high jump by clearing six feet, two inches. He won the long jump with a mark of 20-8.5.

Sophomore distance runner Steven Youngblood finished third in the men's steeplechase with a time of 10:41 and fifth in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:23.  In the men's 100 meter dash, Zak Morson finished seventh in 11.54 seconds and Jose Rodriguez came in sixth at 11.25 seconds. Morson also finished fifth in the long jump by clearing 19-1, and ninth in the javelin throw at 103-2.  Freshman thrower Ben Wulfestieg came in fourth in the shot put with a mark of 36-7, and fifth in the javelin at 121 feet.

The Bulldogs will head to West L.A. College next Friday, February 17, to compete in the Western State Conferene Relays.
