Nevitt Wins Shot Put and Earns Three More Top Five Finishes During WSC North Meet

Taylor Nevitt won the women's shot put and finished in the top five in three other events, while Brent Dionisio and Jose Rodriguez posted top three finishes on the men's side for the Allan Hancock College track and field team during the Western State Conference North Meet at Ventura College Friday.

Nevitt, the reigning conference shot put champion, saved her best throw for last with a mark of 36 feet, 8.25 inches. The sophomore finished third in the hammer throw at 105-2; fourth in the discus throw with a mark of 109-11, and fifth in the javelin throw at 75-7. The Nipomo High School graduate earned 21.5 points in the team standings for the Bulldogs. Freshman America Flores earned one point with a sixth place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 51-11.

Dionisio cleared a season-best 6-6.75 in the men's high jump event. The sophomore was one of two jumpers to clear the mark, but finished second because it took him three attempts to clear the height. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate also finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 21-5.25.

Rodriguez was one of three men to clear 14 feet in the pole vault. The Cabrillo High School graduate finished third in the standings due to the number of attempts required to clear that height. Freshman thrower Ben Wulfestieg finished fourth in the men's shot put with a top mark of 38-0.25. The Cabrillo High School graduate also recorded a throw of 129-11.5 for a fifth place finish in the men's javelin throw. Victor Osalde earned one point for the Bulldogs with a sixth place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 115-8.

Sophomore distance runner Steven Youngblood earned two points with a fifth place finish in the men's 1,500 meter run with a tie of 4:16.79. He also finished seventh in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:20.79.

Sophomore women's distance runner Rachel Naugle finished seventh in the 800 (2:29.25), ninth in the 3,000 (11:44.07), and eighth in the 1500 (5:06.91).

Hancock finished sixth in both the men's and women's team competition.

The Bulldogs will return to action at a meet hosted by Occidental College on March 10.
