Nevitt Earns Two Eighth Place Finishes at Occidental Classic

In a meet featuring hundreds of athletes representing dozens of community colleges and four-year universities, sophomore Brent Dionisio finished runner-up in the men's high jump and Taylor Nevitt posted two eighth place finishes to lead the Allan Hancock College track and field teams' effort at the Occidental Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic Friday.

Competing in a field that included athletes from four-year universities, Nevitt finished eighth in the women's shot put with a top mark of 35-5.25, and eighth in the discus throw at 113 feet.

Also on the women's side, Vanessa Avila ran the 44th fastest time in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:33.88. Sophomore Rachel Naugle ran the 5K in 19:59.25.

For the Hancock men, Dionisio set a new season high by clearing 6 feet, 7 inches for a second place finish in the men's high jump. He was one of two jumpers to clear 6-7, but finished second by virtue of the number of jumps attempted.

Jose Rodriguez cleared 12-5.5 for a 14th place finish in the men's pole vault. Cabrillo High School graduate Ben Wulfestieg finished 17th in the men's shot put with a top mark of 38-11.5.

Freshman Zak Morson finished 41st out of 72 in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.75 seconds. Nate Tulloch was clocked in 12.06 seconds.

Sophomore Steven Youngblood finished 18th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:15.47. He later ran the 5,000-meter run in 16:30.91.

The Bulldogs will return to action Friday, March 17, at the Antelope Valley Classic.
