Naugle Wins Steeplechase at Bakersfield Relays

Sophomore Rachel Naugle won the women's steeplechase event to lead a contingent of Allan Hancock College track and field athletes at the Bakersfield College Relays on Saturday.

 

Naugle won the event by finishing in 12:40. She also placed fifth in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 20:01.

 

Freshman Jose Rodriguez won the men's pole vault event at Bakersfield by clearing 14-2. He also finished fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.47 seconds. Sophomore runner Steven Youngblood came in third in the steeplechase with a time of 10:16, and eighth in both the 5K and 1,500 meter run.

 

Hancock also sent athletes to the ShareSLO/Cal Poly Invitational Saturday. Sophomore Taylor Nevitt finished sixth in the women's shot put with a mark of 35 feet, 5 inches, as well as a 13th place effort in the discus throw with a top mark of 103-1. The Nipomo High School graduate threw farther than an athlete from San Francisco State and Cuesta College in both events.

 

On the men's side, Brent Dionisio won the men's high jump by clearing a career-tying best mark of 6-9. He out-jumped 11 other athletes, including 10 from four-year universities like Cal Poly, Fresno State and Cal State Bakersfield.

 

The Hancock track and field team will return to action Friday, March 31, at the Western State Conference Coastal Meet hosted by Cuesta College.
