Football Ends Season at James H. Cobb Strawberry Bowl

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College football program saw the 2023 campaign come to a close after falling to San Diego Mesa College in the James H. Cobb Family Strawberry Bowl 42-20. The game was held on Tuesday evening under the lights at Ernest Righetti High School. | BOX SCORE

Caden Harris was named as the Player of the Game for Hancock's squad at the conclusion of the game after registering 152 rushing yards and two touchdowns. This marked his eighth consecutive game with 125+ rushing yards en route to his 19th rushing touchdown of the season. The Las Vegas native currently leads all competitors in the SCFA in rushing touchdowns and rushing yards per game (131.4).

As a team, Hancock also remains at the top of the SCFA in nearly all rushing categories: rushing yards - 3,196 (1st); rushing attempts - 515 (1st); rushing yards per game - 290.5 (1st); rushing touchdowns - 40 (1st); yards per rush - 6.2 (2nd).  

The Bulldogs close the season with an overall record of 7-4 after making their 22nd postseason bowl appearance.

QUARTER 1: ALLAN HANCOCK 0 | SAN DIEGO MESA 14

The visiting Olympians got on the board first after a 10-play drive ended with a short rushing touchdown. They doubled the deficit just five minutes later with a 76-yard punt return.

QUARTER 2: ALLAN HANCOCK 7 | SAN DIEGO MESA 14

Mesa used a six-yard touchdown and a one-yard scamper to run the score up in the second frame before Hancock could make it through the goal line. Caden Harris and Ferrari Busby broke the drought after alternating carries on a nine-play possession, which ended with a 14-yard streak to the end zone by Harris. The duo combined to cover 76 yards on the drive.

The Bulldogs fell just short of a second score at the end of the quarter after Kollins Pettaway recovered a fumbled kickoff return by Mesa at the 18-yard line, but the home squad handed the ball right back just two snaps later with an interception before the intermission. 

QUARTER 3: ALLAN HANCOCK 6 | SAN DIEGO MESA 7

Hancock scored on the opening possession of the second half after Harris broke free for a pair of long rushes, but missed the extra-point attempt.

The Olympians responded on the ensuing drive with a touchdown of their own after a 36-yard completion.

QUARTER 4: ALLAN HANCOCK 7 | SAN DIEGO MESA 7

Both teams found the end zone once more in the fourth on back-to-back drives, with Mesa notching the first touchdown after a three-yard scurry through the goal line.

Hancock answered with a six-play drive that was highlighted by a 50-yard completion from Jackson Clavel to Joey Garza before being punched through the goal line on a four-yard scamper by John Allen
