Men's Basketball Opens Home Motors Tournament with 72-52 Win Over Napa

Kevawn Lord scored a team-high 17 points to lead a trio of double-digit scorers during the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team's 72-52 win over Napa Valley on Friday evening. By winning its home opener, the Bulldogs advanced into the championship semifinals of their second annual Home Motors Tournament. The Bulldogs improved to 4-3 and advanced to face Santa Barbara City College at 5 p.m. on Saturday in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. The Vaqueros defeated Chabot 84-82 in the first round on Friday. Napa dropped to 0-3. 

Lord made six of his 11 shots from the floor, including both of his 3-point attempts. In addition to his season-high 17 points, the sophomore transfer pulled down eight rebounds, including three on the offensive glass.

Sophomore guard Shane Carney sank three-of-seven from the floor, including one 3-point bucket. Carney sank four of five from the free-throw line to finish with 11 points. He pulled down four rebounds, dished out five assists and had five steals in the victory.  Center Dominic Jackson added 10 points, including four rebounds and one block. Sophomore Marcellus Garrick finished with nine points, six rebounds and one steals.

All 11 Hancock players, who entered the game, scored at least two points. Shemarr Parker had four points and five rebounds off the bench, while Troy Bolden added four points and six boards.

The Hancock defense held Napa Valley to 28 percent shooting from the field and 18 percent from 3-point territory. The Bulldogs forced 22 turnovers that they turned into 20 points. Hancock outrebounded Napa 40 to 31.

The Bulldogs also held the advantage on bench points (21 to 4) and points in the paint (36 to 22).

Hancock hit 25 of its 50 shots for 50 percent, and sank 55 percent of its 31 free throws.
