
Despite 18 from Lord, Hancock Men's Basketball Drops 84-72 Decision to Santa Monica
Kevawn Lord scored a team-high 18 points to pace five Bulldogs in double figures, but the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team fell 84-72 at home to Santa Monica on Wednesday evening. Playing its first game in nearly two weeks and without the services of its two point guards Shane Carney and Nolan Willett, Hancock fell to 4-6. Santa Monica improved to 6-4.
Lord hit went 6-for-15 from the field, and 6-for-8 from the free-throw line to pace the Bulldogs. The sophomore added eight rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Marcellus Garrick came off the bench to score 14 points to go with three steals. Garrick sank four of his nine shots overall, and all five of his free-throw shots.
Sophomore center Dominic Jackson added 12 points. Guard Deon Whiteside and freshman Troy Bolden, a former Santa Maria High School standout, scored 10 points apiece. Bolden added six rebounds and two steals.
Joe Robinson hit four 3's and scored 18 points in the first half to give the Corsairs a 30-24 edge at halftime. He buried a three 80 seconds into the second half to give the Corsairs a 37-24 lead. Over the next 10 minutes, Hancock regained control behind six points from Lord to tie the game 48-48 with 8:49 to play. Santa Monica went on a 21-6 run over the next five minutes to take the lead for good.
The Bulldogs will look to snap a three-game skid when they return to action Saturday, December 10, at Cerritos.
