Bulldogs Finish Sixth at First WSC Tournament of Season

Sophomore Jett Rugg shot 13-over to help the Allan Hancock College men's golf team finish sixth overall during the season's first Western State Conference tournament of the season. Bakersfield College hosted the event at the par-72 Bakersfield Country Club on Monday.

Behind Rugg's 85, Eddie Aldridge shot the second-best round of the day for Hancock with an 89. Daniel Nelson, a freshman, shot a 95. Sophomore Josiah Sanchez and freshman Matt Salisbury each finished with rounds of 98.

Defending conference champion College of the Canyons took the first two individual spots with Nobuhiko Wakaari shooting a 74 and Jules Laingen with a 75, Despite having the two lowest individual scores, Canyons finished second overall in the team standings at 400. Santa Barbara City College won the tournament with a total score of 386, 17 strokes better than Ventura. Glendale placed fourth at 420, Bakersfield came in fifth with 424 strokes, ahead of Hancock that had 465. Antelope Valley finished seventh, two strokes back of Hancock. Citrus and Victor Valley did not have the required five golfers to compete in the team competition.

Hancock will be back in action next Monday when Santa Barbara City College hosts a conference tournament in Solvang.
