Rugg and Aldridge Finish in Top 18 During WSC #8

Sophomore Jett Rugg shot a five-over 77 and freshman Eddie Aldridge fired a 78 to lead a trio of Allan Hancock College men's golfers during the eighth Western State Conference Tournament of the season on Monday. Citrus hosted the tournament at San Dimas Canyon Golf Course.

Rugg, a Nipomo High School graduate, tied for 10th with a 77. Aldridge's 78 put him tied for 18th in the individual standings. Freshman Daniel Nelson, a Righetti High School graduate, carded a 15-over 87.

Santa Barbara City College won the tournament by a single stroke over College of the Canyons, 373 to 374. The Vaqueros won their first WSC tournament since the first of the season. Ventura finished third at 395, followed by Glendale at 403, and Bakersfield with 417. Antelope Valley placed sixth at 425 and Citrus came in seventh three shots back. Hancock and Victor Valley did not have the five golfers required to compete in the team standings.

Canyons' Nabuhiko Wakaari earned medalist honors with a 71, capturing the top-individual spot for the sixth time in a conference tournament this season. Santa Barbara's Preston Gomersall shot an even-par 72, and Theo Andre-Fouet shot a one-over 73.

Glendale College will host WSC #9 next Monday at Oakmont Country Club.
