MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO FRESNO CITY IN SEASON OPENER
SANTA MARIA - The Allan Hancock College men's soccer team allowed two quick goals by the nationally ranked Fresno City College Rams early in the second half, and that proved to be the difference in a 4-2 loss on Tuesday in the season opener for AHC.
After enjoying a 1-0 lead at halftime, Fresno mid-fielder Francisco Jalomo scored one minute into the second half and forward Rajdeep Singh scored four minutes later to increase the Rams lead to 3-0. Forward Raul Rivera scored in the ninteenth minute of the first half to give Fresno the early lead.
The Bulldogs defense was solid in the first half, but the offense had a tough time getting on track. AHC scored their first goal in the sixty-sixth minute when Victor Velasco (Santa Maria HS) scored on a penalty kick after being fouled in the penalty box to make the score 3-1. FCC would answer back two minutes later when Rivera scored his second goal to make it 4-1.
Velasco would score a second time in the seventy-seventh minute to complete the scoring. The Rams, who are ranked second in the state and fourth in the country in one poll, outshot the Bulldogs 20-9.
AHC will be in action on Friday, September 3 at 5:00 p.m. against San Joaquin Delta during the first day of the AHC Tournament, which will run through Sunday. Other games on day one of the tournament will feature Evergreen Valley vs. West Hills at 3 p.m. on field two and Taft vs. Ohlone at 3 p.m. on field one.
