MEN'S SOCCER RACES PAST CANYONS, 3-0

SANTA CLARITA-- The Allan Hancock College men's soccer team exerted its newfound offensive muscle and turned in another defensive gem as well to post a 3-0 Western State Conference win over College of the Canyons.

Hancock (9-8-6, 7-5-1 WSC) kept itself in the running for a post-season playoff berth with the victory. It was also the second straight win by the identical score for the Bulldogs, which struggled to score goals throughout the season. AHC entered the day among the top three teams in the conference.

Freshman Arturo Diaz (Arroyo Grande) passed to freshman Matt McDonald (Lompoc) for the Bulldogs' first goal in the contest at the 18-minute mark. Twenty-two minutes later, Diaz did the scoring honors himself, assisted by freshman Salvador Gutierrez (Arroyo Grande) as AHC took a 2-0 lead into the half.

Hancock closed out the scoring in the final minute of the game, when Gutierrez set up McDonald for his second goal of the afternoon. Sophomore goalkeeper Jose Perez (Santa Ynez) notched his fifth shutout of the season, while Alex Guerrero (Fr., Righetti) and Francisco Chavez (Fr., Righetti) played tremendous mid-field defense throughout the game.

The Bulldogs wrap-up their 2005 regular season in a home match against Moorpark on Monday.
