SALINAS - Playing to their third tie in regulation, then winning their third straight shoot-out, the Allan Hancock College men's soccer team won the Hartnell Tournament, defeating the host team in the championship final.
Hancock (0-0-3) rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit despite being two players down due to red cards. Goalkeeper Jose Perez was magnificent in the nets and also scored two goals, earning the tournament MVP award.
Juan Velasco scored with three minutes left in regulation to tie the match. Perez then made three saves in the shoot-out as the Bulldogs scored two penalty kick goals to Hartnell's one.
Hancock will host the AHC Tournament beginning Friday, Sept. 9. Their first game will be at 3:00 p.m. against Rio Hondo.
