MEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN TOURNAMENT OPENER
SANTA MARIA-- Playing in their fourth straight shoot-out match, the Allan Hancock College men's soccer team lost in the penalty kick portion, 5-4 to Rio Hondo in a first round match of the Bulldog Soccer Classic.
Hancock (0-0-4) ended the contest in a 1-1 tie. The Bulldogs scored just four minutes in, when Arturo Diaz (Fr., Arroyo Grande HS) received a pass from Jesus Garcia (So., Santa Maria HS) and scored from ten yards out. Rio Hondo went on the offensive but could not break through the AHC defense until the 16 minute mark of the second half, when they scored on a rebound.
The Bulldogs will play in the second round against Ohlone, who fell in a first round match, 1-0 to Long Beach. In other first round action, Santa Barbara City College and West Hills tied 1-1, with Santa Barbara moving on after winning a shoot-out, and Mt. Sac routed Evergreen, WA, 8-0.
Second round match-ups will be:
AHC vs. Ohlone at 10:00 a.m. on field one
West Hills vs. Evergreen at 10:00 a.m. on field two
Rio Hondo vs. Long Beach at 12:00 noon, field one
Santa Barbara vs. Mt. Sac at 12:00 noon, field two.
