MEN'S SOCCER WINS SECOND ROUND CONTEST OF BULLDOG CLASSIC
SANTA MARIA-- In second round action of the Bulldog Soccer Classic, the Allan Hancock College men's soccer team finished their first game of the season in regulation, defeating Ohlone College, 3-1, and moving into the consolation championship match.
Hancock (1-0-4) had opened the season with four straight tie games, winning the first three in penalty kick shoot-outs on route to winning the Hartnell Tournament before falling to Rio Hondo in yesterday's opening round.
Juan Velasco (So., Santa Maria HS) opened the scoring on a free kick in the 23rd minute of the first half. AHC took a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, Salvatore Gutierrez (Fr., Arroyo Grande HS) took a pass from Jesus Garcia (So., Santa Maria HS) to make the score, 2-0 in the 56th minute.. After Ohlone made the score, 2-1 in the 65th minute, Chris Theile (Fr., Santa Maria) made a pass to Ramiro Ruvalcaba (Fr., Santa Maria) that he converted to give the Bulldogs a two goal advantage.
Goalie Omar Pimental (Fr., Lompoc HS) was solid in limited work, making three saves on the day.
AHC will play in the consolation championship on Sunday at noon against West Hills, a 4-1 victor over Evergreen, WA. In other second round action, Long Beach shutout Rio Hondo, 1-0 and Mt. Sac outlasted Santa Barbara, 2-1.
The schedule for the final day of the Bulldog Classic is as follows:
Ohlone vs. Evergreen in the seventh place game at 10:00 a.m.
Rio Hondo vs. Santa Barbara in the third place game at 10:00 a.m.
Allan Hancock vs. West Hills in the consolation championship at 12:00 noon
Long Beach vs. Mt. Sac for the championswhip of the 2005 Bulldog Soccer Classic at 12:00 noon.
