MEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN SEASON OPENER

SALINAS-- Against the tournament host Panthers, the Allan Hancock College men's soccer team fell 0-2, in a hard-fought season opener for both teams at the Hartnell Soccer Tournament.

Hancock (0-1) received outstanding goal-tending from Francisco Ortiz (Fr., Santa Maria HS). Ortiz held the offensive-minded Panthers off the scoreboard until the second half. Vincent Solorio (So., Lompoc HS) and Alexis Lomeli (Fr., Righetti HS) both had strong performances for the Bulldogs.

Head Coach Al Garcia was pleased with the effort of his team. "Win or lose, we really needed to get a game under our belt, he said. "The team was able to see what we needed to work on, Garcia explained, "We played well."

AHC will take on the loser of today's Irvine Valley/Canada game on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 12:00 p.m.
