Men's Soccer Beats Nationally Ranked Teams to Take Title at Hartnell

    
The Allan Hancock College men’s soccer team couldn’t ask for a better start to their season, after beating two nationally ranked teams on their way to victory at the Hartnell Tournament Sept. 3-5.
            The Bulldogs started the tournament with a 5-2 win against Fresno City College, ranked sixth in the nation in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Poll. Returning starterRosario Bras (Santa Maria, CA) scored four goals. Freshman Nestor Alvarez (Santa Maria, CA) had one goal and one assist and freshman Kalan Dapson (Lancaster, CA) and sophomore Servando Perez (Santa Maria, CA) had one assist apiece. Brayan Rivas (Arroyo Grande, CA), a freshman goalkeeper from Arroyo Grande High School, had 12 saves.
            The team continued threir winning streak on Saturday, Sept 4 with a 3-2 win over Irvine Valley College. Alvarez scored one goal, Bras had one goal and one assist and freshman Felipe Sahagan (Guadalupe, CA) and sophomore Ernie Corona (Nipomo, CA) each had one assist. Rivas came through again with 11 saves.
            In the tournament finals, the Bulldogs went up against third-ranked Cerritos College. The final score was 1-1, but Hancock pulled out a win with penalty kicks, beating Cerritos 6-5.  Bras was named tournament MVP, with his five goals and one assist.
            The Hancock men’s team plays next in the Bulldog Classic Tournament at Allan Hancock College on Friday, Sept. 10 against Lassen College.
