Early Assault Leads Hancock to First Win of the Season, 3-1 Over Moorpark

A season-high of three goals delivered a 3-1 win over Moorpark in a Western State Conference game for the Allan Hancock College men's soccer team. The Bulldogs captured their first win of the season under first-year head coach Billy Vinnedge. Hancock improved to 1-5 in conference and 1-8-1 overall.

James Lang, an Arroyo Grande High School graduate, netted the first score in the 15th minute of the match for his first goal of the season. Pedro Salcedo was credited with the assist, his second of the year. Just five minutes later, Jesus Valdez gave Hancock a 2-0 advantage with his first goal of the year, which was assisted by Kelvin Esparza. Nipomo High School graduate Buddy Kichler made it a 3-1 game with an 84th minute score on a ball assisted by Adrian Diaz. It was Kichler's first goal of the season. 

The Bulldogs outshot Moorpark 7 to 5. Diaz led the Bulldogs with three shots, all on target at the goal. Hancock goalie Joel Diaz made four saves.

Moorpark dropped to 0-4-1 in conference and 0-5-3 overall.

Hancock returns to action on Tuesday, October 7, at Rio Hondo in a non-conference game. The Bulldogs host Citrus in a conference battle on Friday, October 10. Both matches start at 4 p.m.
