Guzman Sparks Second Half Outburst, Bulldogs Blank Citrus 4-0 For First Conference Win

Freshman Jorge Guzman scored once and assisted on another to spark a four-goal outburst in the second half during the Allan Hancock College men's soccer team's 4-0 win at Citrus College on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs scored their first Western State Conference win of the season and improved to 1-5-1 in league and 2-8-2 overall. Citrus dropped to 1-6 in conference play and 1-9-1 overall.

The game was scoreless at half time, but Guzman, a Righetti High School graduate, found the back of the net with the first goal of the game in the 47th minute. Sophomore Raul Munoz, an Arroyo Grande High School graduate, was credited with the assist on Guzman's second goal of the year. About 15 minutes later, Guzman found Mario Ramos who buried his second goal of the season to give Hancock a 2-0 advantage in the 62nd minute. The Bulldogs added a third score in the 72nd minute thanks to Bernardo Rubio's second goal of the year.

The Bulldogs added a fourth goal with barely a minute to play in regulation thanks to Arroyo Grande High School graduate Miguel Fregoso. The goal was the freshman's first score of the season.

Humberto Figueroa played 20 minutes in goal for the Bulldogs and made one save, while Ivan Gomez made two saves during his 70 minutes in the net. The pair combined to post the Bulldogs' first shutout of the season.

Hancock and Citrus both finished with 10 shots in the match. Six of Hancock's shots were on goal, while only three of the Owls' were on target.

The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 13, when they host first place Oxnard at 4 p.m.
