Nevitt, Nickelson Open 2016 Season with Second Place Finishes at Battle of the Regions
Alec De Leon, Luke Nickelson, Rachel Naugle and Taylor Nevitt each finished in the top 10 in at least two events to highlight the 2016 season debut of the Allan Hancock College men's and women's track teams. The Bulldogs competed in the Battle of the Regions on Friday at Bakersfield College. The event was a non-scoring meet.
Nevitt, a Nipomo High School graduate, earned four finishes in the top five. Nevitt finished second out of 20 athletes in the women's shot put with a mark of 37 feet, three inches. She placed second out of 12 in the discus throw with a mark of 124-5. She also placed fifth out of 13 in the hammer throw with a top throw of 109-6, and third in the javelin with a top mark of 84-7. Nevitt was an All-Conference women's volleyball player for the Bulldogs last fall.
Naugle, who also played soccer for the Bulldogs, came in tenth in the women's 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:16.12. She also finished ninth in the 3,000 meter run when she crossed the finish line in 11:18.82.
De Leon finished tenth in the men's 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:15.80. The Righetti High School graduate also placed eighth in the 3,000 meter run in 9:36.78. He also finished 12th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:01.12.
Nickelson, a three-time Los Padres League champion, finished second in the triple jump with a top mark of 42 feet. He finished fourth out of 25 men in the long jump with a mark of 20-6.25. He also came in sixth out of 16 in the high jump by clearing 5-11.5.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Friday, February 19 at the Western State Conference Relays at Ventura College.
