Killough Hurls Shutout and Fans Nine, Hancock Softball Wins 4-0 at Moorpark

Freshman Zaiden Bakke drove in two runs, while sophomore Bailey Killough threw her fourth shutout of the season to help the Allan Hancock College softball team blank Moorpark 4-0 on Wednesday in a Western State Conference game. The Bulldogs improved to 6-1 in Western State Conference play and 15-8-1 overall. The Bulldogs are a half game back of first-place Bakersfield, which is 7-1 in league. Moorpark fell to 1-5 in conference and 13-12 on the season.

Killough allowed just four hits and walked five over seven innings. The sophomore struck out a season-high nine batters and moved to 9-1 overall.

Zaiden Bakke drove in the first two Hancock runs. The freshman doubled in the second inning to drive in Killough, who led off the inning with a single. Bakke added to the lead in the fourth a RBI-double. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the inning when Moorpark's shortstop misplayed a ball off the bat of Andrea Ortega that allowed catcher Alyssa Gonzalez and Bakke to score on the play.

Bakke finished the day 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and one run scored. Killough went 1-for-2 with one walk and scored twice.

The Bulldogs return home to open the second half of conference play against Santa Barbara City College at 2 p.m. on Thursday. Hancock opened its conference schedule last month with a 3-2 win at SBCC.
