Women's Basketball Hosts Moorpark Wednesday in Conference Opener
The women's basketball team opens conference action having won three of its last four games. The Bulldogs finished the preseason 8-8 and open WSC play against Moorpark (8-7).
Hancock will look to build on a strong finish to the preseason that ended with a 91-48 win at Gavilan and a 63-39 win last Friday at Hartnell. Sophomore guards Ali Rodriguez , Celina Calderon, and Nicole De La Guerra are the Bulldogs leading scorers. Rodriguez is averaging 14 points and nearly five assists per game. Calderon is averaging 13 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals, while De La Guerra averaged 10 points and two steals per game.
Tashara Pruett is Hancock's leading rebounder at nearly six per game. The freshman post player also averages six points.
Moorpark is led by guard Ashley Ontiveras. The sophomore is averaging 15 points per game, while sophomore forward Sydney Bennett averages 11 points and nearly nine rebounds per contest.
Following the WSC opener, the Bulldogs play at Cuesta on Saturday. The Lady Cougars are 14-4 and ranked 13th in the latest Southern California Regional Poll. They Cougars feature four players averaging 10 or more points per game, led by forward Jerrica Crosby at 13.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.
