
Women's Basketball Thinking Upsets This Week
The women's basketball team faces the top two teams in the Western State Conference standings this week. The Bulldogs host second place Cuesta (5-2, 19-6) on Wednesday, before traveling to first place Ventura (7-0, 20-5). Both games are at 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs split their two conference games on the road last week. They started with a 50-44 win at Oxnard despite 30 percent shooting. Ali Rodriguez led the Bulldogs with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Marissa Torres added 13 points and four assists. Hancock ended the week with a 65-54 loss at Moorpark. Rodriguez led Hancock with 20 points, while Nicole De La Guerra and Tashara Pruett added 11 points each. Pruett led the team with nine rebounds.
Hancock fell earlier in the season 83-65 at Cuesta. The game was within a few points late in the second half, until the host Cougars closed the game on a huge run. Michaila Miller led the Bulldogs with 15 points, while Rodriguez and Celina Calderon added 14 points apice. Hancock shot 48 percent from the field, including 71 percent (10 for 14) from three-point range. Falecia Cabral led Cuesta with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Cuesta had five players score 11 or more points. The Bulldogs lost 77-42 to Ventura last month.
