Hancock Falls 67-41 to Cuesta

The Allan Hancock College women's basketball team battled but fell 67-41 to Cuesta College in a Western State Conference game on Wednesday in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. The Bulldogs dropped to 2-6 in conference and 10-14 overall. Cuesta improved to 6-2 in conference and 20-6 on the season.

Nicole De La Guerra led the Bulldogs with 12 points by hitting six of her 11 shots. Freshman guard Marissa Torres added nine points, four rebounds, two steals, and two assists.

Hancock turned the ball over 21 points which led to 24 Cuesta points. The Bulldogs forced 16 turnovers and cashed them in for 11 points.

The Bulldogs shot 30 percent overall and sank 16 of 53 shots. Hancock made just three of 18 shots from three-point range. Cuesta made seven of 13 from three-point range for a 54 percent clip. The Cougars shot 43 percent overall (27 for 63).

Anika Rovig led the Cougars with 22 points. She hit five of seven from beyond-the-arc and had 17 points in the first half. Cuesta led 37-24 at halftime. Mission Prep graduate Kaylee Williams added 12 points, four assists, five rebounds, and three steals. Oliviah Gemperle added 10 points off the bench. Jerrica Crosby led the Cougars with 13 rebounds to go with eight points. Ashley Gamber added eight points and 10 boards.

Cuesta pulled down 40 rebounds compared to 31 by Hancock.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday at first place and defending state champion Ventura. Tip off is at 7 p.m. The Pirates beat the Bulldogs 77-42 last month.
