Torres Leads Bulldogs to 60-55 Win at Cuesta to End Season; Hancock Reaches Highest Win Total in 20 Years

Marissa Torres sank five three-pointers, Michaila Miller added 11 points and Kelly McClain finished with 12 to help the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team erase a nine-point halftime deficit in a 60-55 win at Cuesta College on Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs snapped a five-game losing skid and ended the 2015-16 season on a winning note. Hancock finished the season 5-7 in Western State Conference play and 16-11 overall after sweeping the season series with the Cougars. Cuesta dropped to 3-8 in conference and 8-19 overall.

The Bulldogs' 16 wins represent the program's highest win total since it went 22-8 in 1995-96. Hancock has also recorded three straight seasons with 12 or more wins since 2001-03.

Torres made five of her 10 shots from three-point range to finish with a team-high 17 points. The sophomore guard tied a season-high with five long-range buckets, and each time it was at the expense of the Cougars.

Miller added 11 points on six for nine shooting. She added nine rebounds, four of which came on the offensive end. The Santa Barbara High School graduate also had three assists and one block.

McClain made six of her nine shots and pulled down seven rebounds and had two steals.

Freshman guard Syenna Ramirez was three for nine from the field, and three for four on free throws. The St. Joseph High School graduate had nine points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

Freshman forward Destinee Garcia had five points, and a team-best 11 rebounds.

Hancock trailed 22-15 after the first quarter and 39-30 at halftime. However, Hancock erased the deficit by outscoring Cuesta 17-5 in the third quarter and 13-11 in the fourth.  Miller scored seven in the decisive third and McClain scored 10 points in the fourth to help secure the win.

Overall, Hancock made 24 of 52 from the field or 46 percent. The Bulldogs sank eight of their 12 free throws. Hancock was six for 16 from three-point territory. 

Torres, Miller and Ashley Daher, all sophomores, played their final games with the Bulldogs.
