Hancock Swim Team Ready to Make Historic Splash
The Allan Hancock College women's swim team is about to make history. The Bulldogs open their inaugural season on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Western State Conference Pentathlon at Ventura College. It will be the first meet in program history.
"It's historic," said head coach Mike Ashmore. "Everyone has improved from where they started from in the preseason. Now, it's time to see where we stack against the rest of the conference."
Hancock and Santa Barbara City College are both debuting women's swim teams this weekend.
"I'm nervous and excited," said freshman swimmer Bailey Nelson, who graduated from Righetti High School. "I'm so ready to participate in an actual meet to gauge our progress as a team."
The Bulldogs return to action at LA Valley in another Western State Conference meet on Saturday, March 1. The Bulldogs will not host a meet this season. Their closest meet to the Santa Maria campus is during the Cuesta Invitational in San Luis Obispo on Friday, March 7.
