Bramble Wins Pentathlon Title, Bulldogs Finish Third Overall in Program's First Meet

Leanna Bramble won four events on her way to the individual pentathlon title to lead the Allan Hancock College women's swim team in its inaugural meet. The Bulldogs, who were competing in the program's first-ever meet, finished third out of ten teams at the Western State Conference Pentathlon hosted by Ventura College on Saturday.

Hancock racked up 111 points, 96 of which came from Bramble. Bakersfield College finished first with 209 points, while Santa Barbara, another first-year program, finished second with 143 points. LA Valley came in fourth and Cuesta in fifth place.

Sarah Rayco-Rosado finished 15th overall with a total time of 5:54.79, while Jessica Kwong finished in 19th place at 5:58.21. Nearly 100 women from 10 schools competed in the event.

Bramble, a freshman, won the 100 yard butterfly, with a time of 1:01.43, the 100 yard freestyle, with a time of 55.61 seconds, the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:06.44, as well as the 100 yard individual medley with a time of 1:03.09. The Orcutt Academy graduate earned 20 points for each first place finish. She finished third in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.12 to earn 16 more points.

Bramble set five school records and won the pentathlon with a total time of 5:11.69 in the five events. Rachelle Visser of Santa Barbara finished second at 5:19.67. Rayco-Rosado came in 15th overall with a total time of 5:54.79, while Kwong finished 19th in 5:58.21.

Kwong, an Orcutt native, finished 12th in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 59.62 seconds to capture five points. Rayco-Rosado came in 13th in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:10.49 to earn four points. She also finished 11th in the butterfly to earn six points with a time of 1:07.04.

The Bulldogs return to action on March 1, at a Western State Conference meet hosted by L.A. Valley.
