Fraire and Roux Earn All-American Status at State and National Levels

After their historic performances at the CCCAA Swim and Dive State Championships, Allan Hancock College's Izzie Fraire and Kailey Roux have earned more state and national recognition. Fraire received All-American status for California and the nation in three events: the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke, and 200-yard individual medley (I.M.). Roux earned All-American status at the state and national levels in 1-meter and 3-meter diving. The top-16 times or scores performed by athletes at two-year colleges during the 2019 season made the exclusive lists.

Fraire, who won the state title in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:19.62, ranked first in the state and second in the nation this season. Savanna Best of Indian River State College in Florida swam the fastest 200-breaststroke time of the year in 2:16.42. Fraire ranked No.4 in California and fifth in the nation in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.89. Best led the nation with a time of 1:02.34. In the 200- I.M., the Righetti High School graduate ranked No. 7 in the nation and third in California with a time of 2:09.79. Best's time of 2:03.40 also ranked first in the nation in the 200-I.M.

Fraire placed fourth in the 100-breaststroke and second in the 200-I.M. at the state championships. All three of Fraire's times broke Hancock school records.

Roux ranked eighth in California and the nation with a score of 153.1 in 1-meter diving. The Orcutt Academy graduate's score of 153.35 in the 3-meter event ranked sixth in the nation and state. Roux posted the highest finishes in the state championships by a Hancock diver in program history.

Meantime, Hancock's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Fraire, Helen Frazer, Kaila Guillemin, and Angel Landis earned All-America status at the state level. Their time of 8:42.82 ranked No. 16 among California colleges. Guillemin, a Santa Ynez High School graduate, and Landis, an alumna of Arroyo Grande High School, both completed their sophomore seasons for the Bulldogs.

Under Head Coach Mike Ashmore, Hancock finished fifth in the 2019 Western State Conference Championships and 18th out of 40 teams at the CCCAA State Championships.
