Women's Swimming to Hold First Home Meet in Program History on Saturday, March 14; BBQ Fundraiser Planned for Event

The Allan Hancock College women's swim team will host the first home meet in program history on Saturday, March 14. The Western State Conference meet will feature the host Bulldogs, as well as the men's and women's swim teams from Cuesta, Ventura, Santa Barbara City College and Bakersfield. The meet starts at 11 a.m. and takes place at the Paul Nelson Aquatics Center, which is located at 600 South McClelland Street in Santa Maria, near City Hall.

"We are privileged to have the opportunity to host a meet in our hometown," said assistant coach Ben Britten. "We are hoping our ladies will feel a wave of community support especially because nearly every swimmer on our roster is a Central Coast native. "

The swim program has entered its second year of existence. Last year, the Bulldogs finished eighth in the conference standings and 24th out of nearly 50 teams at the State Championships. Sophomores Leanna Bramble, Bailey Nelson and freshman Natalie Bondy headline the 2015 Bulldogs. Bramble is the conference's defending champion in the 100 yard breaststroke, as well as the 100 and 200 yard individual medley events.

"Our conference features some of the most talented community college swimmers in the state. We encourage area swimmers and coaches to check out the action that will be right in their own backyard," added Britten.

The team will hold a BBQ fundraiser during the meet. Tickets cost $12 and will go toward a tri-tip sandwich, chips, drink and two homemade cookies. All proceeds will go toward purchasing official team jackets, as well as meeting the team's equipment needs.  Tickets can be purchased from coaches and team members, as well as by calling (805) 922-6966 ext. 3227 or by emailing mashmore@hancockcollege.edu .
