Hancock Swimming Wins Dual Meet with Clovis, Kwong Breaks School Record

Dria Kwong set a school record in the 50-yard butterfly as the Allan Hancock College women's swimming team defeated Clovis in a dual meet 93-54 during the Bulldogs' first home meet of the season at Paul Nelson Aquatic Center in Santa Maria on Thursday afternoon. Kwong won two events for Hancock, which won six of the eight events.

 

Kwong won the 50-yard fly in 27.62 seconds to earn nine points. Hancock's Makenna Blanco finished second in 30.68 to earn four points. Kwong, a three-time conference champion, won the 50-yard breaststroke in 29.49 seconds, just 0.09 of a second off her school record.

 

Sophomore Rebecca Gonzalez won the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 32.95 seconds. She later finished second in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:10.91, touching the wall 0.73 of a second behind Clovis' Nicole Bruno. Hancock freshman Ellyn Clardy took the 50-yard freestyle in 26.84 seconds.

 

Hancock won both relay events. They won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:48.03 with the team of Kwong, Clardy, Meagan Stevens and Shannon Copeland. Gonzalez, Maddie Diaz, Blanco and Brannica Casabar finished first in the 200-yard medley with a time of 2:02.82.

 

The Bulldogs will compete in the two-day Cuesta Invitational that runs Friday and Saturday.
