Arevalo's First Goal Of The Season Leads Hancock To 1-0 Win Over Moorpark

Mike Arevalo's first goal of the season proved to be enough as the Allan Hancock College men's soccer team blanked visiting Moorpark College 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs improved to 3-8-3 in Western State Conference play and 4-11-4 for the season. The Raiders fell to 2-9-2 in conference and 2-12-2 for the season. Hancock increased its lead in the conference standings with 12 points over seventh place Moorpark which has eight points, while Citrus sits in eighth with seven points.

Arevalo's first goal of the season came late in the first half in the 42nd minute on a ball assisted by freshman midfielder Christian Merino. It marked the first assist of the season from the Arroyo Grande High School graduate. 

The Bulldogs controlled the pace in the second half and fired off 20 shots, incudling several close-range shots on goal.Hancock finished with 28 shots overall, including 11 on frame. Sophomore forward Adrian Diaz had eight shots in the game, including two on goal. Bernardo Rubio fired off five shots, two of which were on target, while three of Miguel Fregoso's five shots were on frame.

Hancock goalie Ivan Gomez tallied three saves. Stellar defense from Arevalo, a Nipomo High School graduate and Hancock sophomore, along with Jesus Valdez, Anjel Mendez, Osvaldo Aquino and James Lang helped preserve the shutout for the Bulldogs. 

The Bulldogs return to action next Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 3 p.m. against last place Citrus. The Bulldogs blanked Citrus 4-0 last month.
