Hancock Women Fall 62-46 at Moorpark in Second-Place Showdown

Brianna Rubalcaba scored a career-high 13 points and Grace Rosa added 10, but the Allan Hancock College women's basketball team fell 62-46 at Moorpark in a battle for second place on Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs dropped to 4-3 in Western State Conference play and 12-11 overall. The Raiders moved to 5-2 in league and 18-6 on the year. The two teams played for the second time in a week. Hancock's defense led the Bulldogs to a 35-29 victory last Wednesday.

This time around, the Raiders stormed out of the gates to build an early 12-2 lead. Hancock shot 27 percent in the first half and trailed 29-19 at intermission. The Raiders shot 37 percent and were led by Charlyee Amos who scored 11 points in the first 20 minutes.

Moorpark outscored Hancock 19-10 in the third quarter to carry a 48-29 into the fourth quarter.

Rubalcaba led the Bulldogs with a 6-for-11 effort from the floor, and 1-for-3 mark from 3-point range. She added four rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Rosa went 4-for-13 from the field and 2-for-3 from the line. The sophomore added four rebounds and blocked three shots.

Hannah Walls went 3-for-5 from 3-point range to finish with nine points, seven boards and three blocks. Moorpark limited Taylor Lee-Hammer to five points, five rebounds and five assists, while Karly Beyers compiled two points and four boards.

Hancock shot 35 percent overall in the game by sinking 18-of-52. The Bulldogs went 6-for-15 from long-range and hit 4-of-5 from the line.

Amos finished with a game-high 23 points. Emily Herring added seven points, 11 rebounds and ten assists. Moorpark, which was limited to 19 percent shooting in last week's loss at Hancock, shot 39 percent overall in the win. The Raiders went 6-for-23 from 3-point range and held a 44-30 advantage in rebounds.

Hancock returns home to host Santa Barbara on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. The Bulldogs and Vaqueros are tied for third in the conference standings at 4-3 in league play and 12-11 overall. Hancock defeated SBCC 52-39 last month.
