Bondy, Nelson Lead Bulldogs at WSC Pentathlon

Freshman Natalie Bondy and sophomore Bailey Nelson paced the Allan Hancock College women's swim team during its season-opening meet on Friday. The Bulldogs, who are starting the second season in program history, competed at the Western State Conference Pentathlon hosted by LA Valley College.

Bondy finished 16th out of the 63 swimmers who completed all five events with a total time of 5:58.03. The freshman finished 30th in the 100 yard butterfly (1:15.10), 16th in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:11.04), 10th in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:17.70), 27th in the 100 yard freestyle (1:02.59), and 18th in the 100 yard individual medley (1:11.60).

Nelson finished in 28th place with a total time of 6:11.34. Her top event was a 19th place finish in the 100 yard freestyle (1:01.69). The Righetti High School graduate also finished 23rd in the 100 fly (1:12.89), 37th in the 100 breast (1:15.73), 38th in the breast (1:25.62), and 39th in the 100 individual medley (1:15.41).

Last year's WSC Pentathlon champion Leanna Bramble, a sophomore for the Bulldogs this season, did not compete in the meet. 

Several other Bulldogs swam events, including Sara Zuckerbraun, Rebecca Ensing, Ryan Martin, Estefany Cortes, Caija McNeil, Kaitlin McNeil, Marisa Zubiate, and Esmeralda Garcia.

Hancock returns to action on Friday, Feb. 27, in its first five-way conference meet of the season. College of the Canyons will host Cuesta, Ventura, Hancock and LA Pierce.
