Bramble Repeats in 100 Yard Breaststroke at WSC Championships
(Ventura, CA) Allan Hancock College swimmer Leanna Bramble successfully defended her Western State Conference title in the women's 100 yard breaststroke on Friday evening during the WSC Championships in Ventura.
The sophomore, who entered the final as the second seed, won by nearly one second with a time of 1:07.77. Last year, Bramble smashed the conference record in the 100 yard breaststroke by three seconds when she was clocked in 1:06.41. She also won the 100 and 200 yard individual medley titles in 2014. The Orcutt Academy graduate finished runner-up in the 500 yard freestyle final on Thursday.
Sophomore Caija McNeil finished tenth in the 400 individual medley final on Friday evening. The Santa Maria High School graduate set a school record and shaved four seconds off her personal-best time when she was clocked in 5:45.99.
Freshman Natalie Bondy set a personal-best in the 100 yard butterfly final. Bondy finished tenth with a time of 1:08.18, nearly two seconds faster than her preliminary time.
Several swimmers turned in personal-best times during the morning session. During the 200 yard freestyle, Kaitlin McNeil (2:36.91) shaved a second off her time, Patricia Mendez (2:38.12) shaved 10 seconds, Rebecca Ensing took off seven seconds (2:48.11), Esme Garcia took off six seconds (2:49.12), Elia Gonzalez shaved 16 seconds (2:54.13), and Betsy Garcia eliminated 23 seconds (2:57.16).
Hancock sits in tenth place after two days. Santa Barbara City remains in first place and Cuesta in second place.
The three-day championship meet ends on Saturday.
